FYAP Seeks Monetary, Volunteer Support for Snack Attack and Summer Meals Programs

May 11, 2021 - Fishers Youth Assistance Program (FYAP) is seeking monetary and volunteer support for its annual meals programs – Snack Attack and the 2021 Summer Meals program – that provide food and additional resources for hundreds of Hamilton Southeastern Schools children each year.

Snack Attack distributes more than 2,900 snacks to 429 students each week throughout the HSE Schools calendar year. The Summer Meals program provides breakfast and lunch for 700 youth during a nine-week period over the summer months.

Several groups supported FYAP meals programs in 2020, including the Hamilton County Commissioners, Central Indiana Community Foundation, the Care Institute, Ardagh Group, Four Day Ray, the Broom Family, several local churches and individual donors.

“We wanted to support FYAP because Four Day Ray is part of the Fishers community,” said Brian Graham, President & Owner, Four Day Ray. “It is part of our mission to assist the community we love and give back whenever we can. The kids in our community needed help, and we were able to step up and help in a time of need. We are so excited our business is able to make an impact right here in our own backyard.”

The depth of the impact made since 2014 through FYAP programs has been felt in the Hamilton County Court system.

“We have seen a decrease in the number of kids detained in our detention center and who have ended up in the judicial system over the last several years,” said Paul Felix, the Judge of the Hamilton County Circuit Court and FYAP board member. “Our Fishers Early Intervention Advocates have done a wonderful job identifying challenges early in the lives of these kids so they don’t head down a much more destructive path in the future.

There are many opportunities and ways to contribute to both programs, including:

FYAP serves as an early intervention advocate for youth ages 3-17 who are facing challenging life circumstances. The local nonprofit organization takes a holistic approach to coordinate our community’s vast array of talents, services and resources to help youth and empower parents and caregivers.

FYAP early intervention advocates connect clients with resources in the areas of child wellness, basic needs, caregiver support, social engagement, extended academic support and judicial prevention. If you are a family who could benefit from this support, please complete a self-referral at www.youthassistance.org/fishers.

FYAP Benefits from Shake Shack’s Grand Opening Generosity

April 25, 2021 - Shake Shack, a new Fishers restaurant and first of its kind in Indiana, has donated 600 free meal vouchers to Fishers Youth Assistance Program (FYAP) after its April 22 grand opening at its new location (9701 E. 116th St.) in the Fishers District.

FYAP will be developing plans for how to disperse the vouchers to its clients and volunteers in the weeks and months ahead.

FYAP board members attended the grand opening ribbon cutting and were able to sample some of the new food.

Shake Shack began as a hot dog stand in New York City. In 2004, it became a permanent fixture in the community while at the same time expanding its menu to burgers, fries, shakes and more. Today, Shake Shack has locations all across the United States, and it supports community partners in various locations.

FYAP Welcomes Two New Board Members

Nov. 10, 2019 – Fishers Youth Assistance Program has added two new members to its Board of Directors. The board recently unanimously approved three-year terms for real estate lawyer Carolina Rashidfarokhi and community volunteer Denise Retzner.

Rashidfarokhi is CEO of CP Investments LLC, a local real estate investment company. She has lived in Fishers for five years with her husband, Peyman, and two children. Retzner, who has volunteered with a number of community, religious, educational and sports organizations, is an 18-year resident of Fishers. She and her husband, Rodney, have four sons who have either graduated or are attending Hamilton Southeastern High School.

“We are so excited to welcome Carolina and Denise to our growing board,” FYAP Board President Leah McGrath said. “They both bring a wealth of talents and energy to the important work of our early intervention advocates and community donors and volunteers. We believe they can bring new ideas to help our organization connect families to important resources when they are in crisis.”

FYAP has provided support to more than 1,000 families in Hamilton Southeastern Schools District since its inception in 2014. It received more than 200 referrals alone in the 2018-2019 school year.

As a public/private partnership, FYAP provides professional, family-centered advocacy and referral services to kids, ages 3-17, in the Hamilton Southeastern Schools District. Appointed by the Hamilton County Courts, FYAP’s early intervention advocates work with HSE Schools and the City of Fishers to give families a comprehensive support structure to help them when a crisis occurs or when a specific need arises.

The non-profit arm of FYAP, led by a Board of Directors, works to help fill the gaps in service and care when they arise. We manage an annual Summer Meals Program, which provided more than 46,000 meals this year, and we continue to provide our confidential referral services year-round to kids who need general and mental health counseling, no-cost family education programming, home stabilization support, tutoring, and recreational activity scholarships.  New this year to FYAP is Snack Attack, an extension of our Summer Meals Program that provides kids in need with healthy snacks every weekend throughout the school year.

May 21, 2019 - FISHERS – Organizers of this summer’s Fishers Youth Assistance Program (FYAP) Summer Meals Program are encouraging local businesses and residents to help raise funds and food to feed 700 kids a record 63,000 meals for the upcoming nine-week endeavor.

“We are so grateful for the past support our entire community has provided to this worthy cause,” FYAP Board President Leah McGrath said. “This year is no different as we have quickly exceeded the number of families who need assistance in the summer months. It is an opportunity for businesses, families, and others to come together to help their fellow neighbors.”

FYAP is a single point of resource for families in Fishers who need assistance. It has served more than 950 families since it began in 2014 through direct advocate support, and provided more than 1,000 youth additional support services, including the FYAP Summer Meals Program. FYAP was formed to strengthen youth and families through community involvement.
